Adelina Ruíz
I have a B.A. in Social Psychology, an MA in English Language Teaching and I am in the process of obtaining a PhD in Education, these last two from the University of Nottingham in the UK.
I started my English teaching career in 1989. I have worked in language institutes and in schools at primary, secondary and high school levels, both as a teacher and as a programme coordinator. I arrived at ITESO in 2001 to support Learner Autonomy projects, which is an area where I have developed most of my expertise. As part of the now Language Department, I have worked as a teacher in the Programa Certificado de Inglés, as a curricular class teacher, coordinating teachers and since 2009 as the head of the Unit for Autonomous Language Learning.
I have also been lucky enough to have been involved in various teacher training projects both with ITESO and with the British Council. This is another area where I have built experience and expertise.
To me, being a teacher is who I am, not what I do for a living. I believe in educating ourselves and being there for one and other, in the present and for the future. I believe in building together and in the transcendence of teaching when it strengthens the learner.
Alison J. Clinton
Alison J. Clinton has been working in the field of English language teaching for many years. Her main areas of interest are English for Academic Purposes, Intercultural Studies and English as a Medium of Instruction. She holds a master's degree in Cultural Studies from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland. She is an academic coordinator and currently teaches the online version of Critical Reading and Writing in English.
Esther Villaseñor Jiménez
Soy licenciada en Enseñanza del Inglés por el CENEVAL y maestra en la misma disciplina por la Universidad de Saint Mark & Saint John (Marjon) del Reino Unido.
Inicié mi carrera en la enseñanza del inglés en 1992. Desde entonces y hasta 2003 trabajé en institutos de idiomas y escuelas de educación básica, media y superior. En 2005 llegué al ITESO y desde entonces he colaborado en el Departamento de Lenguas como profesora de los diferentes programas de inglés de la universidad. Actualmente soy coordinadora docente del Programa Alternativo de Inglés (PAI) y de los programas de alemán, francés y otras lenguas adicionales al inglés.
Además de mi labor docente en el ITESO, he tenido la fortuna de participar en otros proyectos de la universidad tales como la capacitación y entrenamiento de profesores de inglés tanto de la SEP como del sector privado.
Para mí, el participar en el proceso de formación de los estudiantes del ITESO así como el poder acompañar y compartir experiencia con mis colegas profesores es un privilegio y un compromiso que agradezco y disfruto todos los días.
Martha Carrillo
I hold a BA in Education from ITESO and a MEd in English Language Teaching from the University of St. Mark and St. John in the United Kingdom. I have taught English in different contexts and levels for the last 20 years. I started working as an English teacher at ITESO in 2003 when the Programa Certificado de Inglés (PCI) was offered for the first time. I have also been a facilitator in the teacher training program for SEP English teachers organized by ITESO. I joined the Coordination team of the Language Department in November 2012. Since then, I have been working as a team leader with a group of teachers for levels 5 and 6.
Paula Zulaica
I graduated from the BA in Letras Hispánicas from Universidad de Guadalajara and I obtained my Master of Arts in Hispanic Language and Literatures from Boston University.
I started my work at ITESO in 2009 as a profesora de asignatura and since 2012 I have been the Online Applications Coordinator at the Language Department. I am passionate about looking for new ways to include technology in learning, without neglecting humanity, and I strive to reflect this in both my teaching and coordination of the Blended and Virtual English programs as well as the Dual Immersion Project.
Besides my work with technology and the English language, in the past I worked at ITESO as a part of the Spanish for Foreigners and Oral and Written Communication academic coordinations; as well as my previous work at Boston University, Simmons College and San Jose State University, where I taught Spanish Language, Advanced Composition, Introduction to Hispanic Literature and Latin American Culture and Civilization.
Sarah Brown
I have a Bachelor's degree in Russian from the University of Wales, Swansea, UK. When I finished my degree I trained as an English as a foreign language teacher (EFL) and then began my career as an English teacher in the Czech Republic. I came to Mexico in 1994, and since then have taught English at different levels in both schools, universities, and language institutes. In 2000, I gained my Master's in Education in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the University of Bristol, UK. After that, as well as continuing teaching English, I became involved in teacher training in Mexico, and in text book development.
I have been working in the Language Department at ITESO since 2001 as both a teacher and an academic coordinator in the Certificate English Programme (PCI). I coordinate the groups of teachers working with levels 7 and 8 of the programme, and participate in the Department's teacher training projects both within the university, and in the public and private educational sectors.
William Quinn
Soy originario de los Estados Unidos; me crie en Baltimore, e hice estudios de licenciatura en lenguas modernas en la Universidad de Georgetown. Hace más de 35 años que me vine a vivir a Guadalajara, así que me siento tapatío adoptivo. En el ITESO estudié la maestría en Comunicación de la Ciencia y la Cultura.
Actualmente trabajo como Director del Departamento de Lenguas, y busco la manera de que el desarrollo de las competencias comunicativas, tanto en lengua materna como en lenguas extranjeras, se vuelva realmente transversal en el ITESO, tal y como se contempla en el Modelo Educativo. El objetivo es que alumnos y académicos encuentren amplios recursos y oportunidades, dentro de fuera del aula, para afinar su capacidad de acceder a conocimientos y comunicar los suyos a través de un manejo sólido de las lenguas.
Por mi puesto actual trabajo poco en el aula, pero me gusta la docencia. He impartido asignaturas de inglés curricular como Lectura Crítica & Redacción, y Mediación & Negociación, así como Sociedad & Medio Ambiente (en inglés) en el Departamento de Formación Humana, y Sustentabilidad & Recursos Naturales (en español) en el Departamento de Procesos Tecnológicos e Industriales. Coordino además el servicio de traducción que ofrece el Departamento de Lenguas.
